- Our Mission
“To engage in work among the needy by providing immediate assistance and long-term services that help guide individuals, regardless of their race or religion, toward the path of self-reliance.”
Senior citizens, students, veterans, families, working poor and others... everyone needs a helping hand sometime. We believe you have to meet someone's immediate needs before they can begin to focus on long-term goals. We assist with these basic needs while helping to work on a long-term plan for self-sufficiency.
Basic Human Needs - Those in need can receive emergency food and personal items; emergency assistance for rent, utilities, life-sustaining prescriptions; transportation assistance; and clothing vouchers.
Educational Information – Education and counseling can help families and individuals become more self-sufficient. Topics include: creating and sticking to a budget, building or improving credit, homeownership, Fair Housing and Predatory Lending, and lead-based paint dangers.
Maintain Self-Reliance – SMC offers programs to help families and individuals along the way... St. Martin Early Learning Center, a Keystone STAR 4 facility; PA WORKWEAR, which provides clothing to men for job interviews and employment; Ways to Work, which provides loans for quality vehicles to have transportation for employment; and other services.
