Our Mission
“To engage in work among the needy by providing immediate assistance and long-term services that help guide individuals, regardless of their race or religion, toward the path of self-reliance.”
SMC assists the entire individual by delivering many diverse services
Basic Human Needs - For many, going to sleep hungry is not a threat; it’s a regular occurrence, and that must end. (Former USDA Secretary Mike Espy)
With our emergency food program, St. Martin Center is able to provide basic necessities for those who temporarily cannot afford them. When funds are available, emergency financial assistance is provided for rent, utilities or life-sustaining prescriptions. We also provide clothing vouchers.
Peace of Mind – No man is an island (John Donne)
All individuals deserve to feel that they have a chance to improve their life situation, no matter how grim it may seem. Our social service caseworkers and housing counselors are able to show clients what opportunities they have available to them to achieve their goals.
Educational Information – Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself (Desiderius Erasmus)
St. Martin Center provides education on a range of topics: creating and sticking to a budget, building or improving credit, homeownership, Fair Housing and Predatory Lending, and lead-based paint dangers.
Maintain Self-Reliance – There are admirable potentialities in every human being. (Andre Gide)
St. Martin Center supports and encourages individuals in developing their potential by providing long-term services that make life easier. Services such as housing counseling and childcare through St. Martin Early Learning Center are great examples.
